When long-standing Maxxis Influencer Jack Dobson turned his much-loved hobby of restoring old Land Rovers into a business, many people warned him that what was a passion might become a chore. Two years on, Jack has proved them wrong saying: “I absolutely love what I do.”

Jack, who’s an avid Maxxis RAZR MT fan, explains that he rebuilt his first Land Rover (which he still has today) with his Dad when he was only 16. The rest is history.
“I love their versatility – from carrying a group of mates to the beach or chucking in camping gear and hitting the trails. There’s not much you can’t do with a Landy. Plus, they are very cool!”
The mantra of his company, Jack Oliver Dobson, is ‘re-envisioned vehicles’ – which he says generally means taking an old, stock standard, unloved farm vehicle and turning it into something rather special.

In doing the rebuild he strives to keep the character of the old vehicle, while recognising some of their shortcomings and making improvements.
“With some carefully considered, subtle updates I’ve found it possible to make the older models a bit more user-friendly and enjoyable in modern traffic, which includes fitting them with RAZR muddies.”
Jack explains that older Land Rovers came with tiny wheels that feel a bit lost in the wheel arches.
“One of the best things you can do is ditch them for a bigger set fitted with chunky Maxxis Mud Terrains. I fit them to all my builds. Not only do the tyres look great, they are a much safer than the original specification and are more capable. The short-wheel base Land Rovers look especially purposeful with a meaty set of RAZRs!”
Jack has just finished his rebuild of a 1970’s Land Rover which is being converted to electric. “Although it’s interesting tech to be involved with, I think for now, my heart lies with petrol powered V8s. Later this year I will be building a 1950’s Land Rover with a Range Rover V8. You can bet it will have a set of Maxxis Mud Terrains.”
