The new Maxxis Victra Sport 5 (VS5) has proven it’s a tyre to be reckoned with, tying with Bridgestone for 3rd place overall and taking out the top spot in wet braking, against a high calibre field of the hottest new performance tyres in the annual MOTOR Tyre Test.
The scene was set at the renowned Sydney Dragway at Eastern Creek, as eight performance tyres from some of the world’s leading tyre brands including Bridgestone, Goodyear, Pirelli, Michelin, and Continental – all previous winners of the test, were put through their paces in five gruelling disciplines. As Australia’s longest continuously running and most trusted independent media tyre evaluation, the exciting outcome from MOTOR’s latest test, adds weight to the VS5’s growing list of accolades both locally and internationally.

With each tyre thoroughly assessed and rated in three dry and two wet tests on a high performing Peugeot 308 Gti, the VS5 pipped nearest rival Michelin Pilot Sport 4S to the post in wet braking, taking the number one ranking at 23.79m. Although admitting their surprise at the result considering the pedigree field, the judges said that “the Victra Sport 5 is excellent when it comes to wet braking”, with no-one left in doubt about this impressive result.
The new flagship VS5 Maxxis range has already made its mark in overseas markets as a very popular and significant contender for fitment to a wide range of late model vehicles. It has also achieved the best wet and dry braking score against some very high profile rival brands in independent testing conducted in Germany by the TUV SUD testing group in April 2018. Testing commissioned by Maxxis in February 2019 at the AARC proving ground in Anglesea also highlighted these results, with the VS5 evaluated by local experts, including former V8 Supercar Champion, Russell Ingall.
According to Maxxis Product Manager, Jeff Moorhead, the release of the VS5 is a pivotal moment for Maxxis, representing the very best of next generation tyre design and technology, performance, quality and value – something that the MOTOR Tyre Test once again reinforces. In addition to performance and good looks, the VS5 delivers all the features of a premium brand product that make it a compelling alternative replacement tyre fitment for late model vehicles.
“Considerable resources have been invested in this new range with the result that the Maxxis R&D team has pulled out all the stops to build a truly outstanding product that delivers very high levels of safety, handling and grip in both wet and dry conditions.”
Jeff Moorhead , Maxxis Product Manager AU
“Designed for a vast range of car and SUV fitments, there’s much about the VS5 that sets it apart as a highly competitive tyre in its class and beyond. While it is currently available in a number of sizes, it will be expanded to more than 50 sizes over the next 12 months covering many popular car and SUV fitments,” Moorhead says.
