Taking adrenalin to a mega high, Cliffhanger 4WD 2019 saw 60 teams battle it out over 800km of NSW’s roughest terrain in a quest to conquer winching, navigating and speed perfection – with Maxxis Trepadors the tyres chosen to go the distance for many of the competitors’ rigs.
With no other event in the country said to offer this much time behind the wheel, it’s a challenge for only the most daring. From the Maxxis-sponsored event’s base camp at Mt Gap Road, Cobar, the teams were put to the test during a week that saw hundreds of hours of winching up rocks and vertical walls, speedy creek runs, navigational tasks, and rally stages.
Featuring some of the toughest rigs in their class from all over Australia, the 30 Winch Trucks, 15 Buggies and 15 Super Tourers pulled out all the stops to provide some incredible competitor action and spectator value.
While the built-from-scratch Buggies boasted their super flex rock crawling abilities on the big rocks, the extra tough and capable Winch Truck class teams showed what they were made of in the long open creek bed and rally stages – as well as getting heaps of chance to show off their nav skills and race at night! Meantime, the fun-loving Super Tourers fitted in and enjoyed the best of all worlds – their rigs geared up for both the road and 4WD territory.
The bottom line? At Cliffhanger there’s very little off-limits — from thick dust, mud, heavy duty rock faces and inclines and just about everything in-between. And with the 2021 event already in planning stages to be even bigger, better and meaner, there’s going to be no stopping even more gruelling conditions – so get ready for the action!
