“Quiet, tough, gripping and great value for money!” This was the verdict reached by 4×4 Australia after fitting a set of RAZR LT 285/70R17’s to their Ford Ranger and setting off through some of Australia’s most gruelling countryside.
On the highway, through the Simpson Desert and over the harsh rocky roads of the Flinders Rangers, the RAZRs stood up to the test right from the start:
“The first thing we noted about the RAZR tyres…was how great they looked and quiet they were,” while in terms of on-road noise they were “more akin to an aggressive all-terrain tyre than a muddy”.
The tyres also impressed on gravel “delivering straight and stable tracking at speed, and “instilling confidence in the way they turn in and bite into the loose road surface”, while there was also no issue with stones getting caught in the tread.
In terms of pressures, the tyres performed on all surfaces. On the highway they ran at 36 to 38psi without feeling too harsh, and “bagged out nicely at lower pressures, lengthening the contact patch for better flotation over soft terrain”.
While other drivers struggled over the desert’s sand dunes, the RAZRs took on the challenge with ease. The team dropped the RAZRs pressures to a low 12psi, enabling the Ranger to take on Big Red with confidence!
Despite their gruelling journey, the RAZRs showed no sign of punctures or chipping in the tread – and the glowing review ended with a plan in place to keep the RAZRs’ adventure going:
“With the excellent performance of the tyres so far we’re in no hurry to get rid of them and are still keen to try them out on some muddy tracks, once the High Country tracks re-open for summer.”
