While the Sunny Coast’s renowned beaches are his regular 4×4 weekend playground, some of the region’s harder muddy tracks and steep rocky terrain hold some serious appeal for Tristan, this month’s Maxxis Man Off-road Showcase participant!
Tristan’s 1992 Nissan GQ patrol TB42 has the alias “Sid the Sloth” which may have you thinking he’s not going anywhere remotely adventurous, fast or furious! But, don’t be fooled! The rig is fitted with Maxxis RAZR 33×12.50 R15s — a formidable tyre that has proved itself both on- and off-the-road beyond a shadow of a doubt through even the most challenging landscapes and weather conditions the Sunshine Coast serves up!
“I went with the RAZRs (which are fitted on a R15x8 -22 steel rim) because of their aggressive tyre pattern as well as the low road noise – plus their unbelievable off- and on-road capabilities, and I haven’t been disappointed,” Tristan says.
The GQ Patrol has a wide range of mods and upgrades (with more to come) giving it the grunt, capability and protection-factor needed for some pretty serious 4WDing which get Tristan (and Sid the Sloth) where they need to go!
Mods include a 3” lift, drop boxes, superior long travel shocks, superior drag link, superior pan hards, superior drop out cones and coil retainers. Rear draws and a custom rear door table, as well as 3” stainless steel snorkel, custom rear bar, custom 2.5” exhaust, 480 Holley carby and 60 series mirrors — are also all part of the deal with the 40 channel UHF next in line for an upgrade!
